Music and Insomnia (Eng. Ver.)
People’s life is just like music. Their life needs rhythm that should be kept stable. There are lots of factors that affect the stability of people’s rhythm and one of them is sleep.
Human needs sleep to revitalize and to repair their damaged body cells. Also, sleep will help stabilize the body metabolism. If we have lack of sleep, or we are having problem with sleep, our body system will be in trouble, and it will affect our activity in the afternoon.Usually, we will be not very enthusiastic and moreover, we will be less vulnerable to many diseases. One of the symptoms of that sleep problem is insomnia. It is also being my problem at this moment.
An article in the internet (Prijosaksono, Sembel: 2002), implies that insomnia is a sleep problem that is experienced by feeling tired and fatigued all day. Also continually (usually more than ten days) having difficulty at sleeping or waking up in the midnight and not able to sleep again.
There are three types of insomnia: Sleep onset insomnia, Sleep maintenance insomnia and early awakening insomnia. The cause of insomnia comes from many factors. It can come from a psychological factor or physical factor. That was said by the leader of Insomnia Clinic at the United States, Dr. Nino Murcia. Then, based on what the expert said, there are at least 4 factors that cause insomnia. That is psychological and biological predisposition, like the usage of drugs, alcohol, high-caffeine beverage, smoke, disturbing environment, and bad habit and also many diseases that trigger insomnia, such as asthma, rheumatic, gastric, kidney problem, and thyroid.
After knowing insomnia and how does it cause, then, to find the answer, is by self diagnosis. The first step is to spare your time to look for and to analyze the cause of the insomnia. After that, we are able to look for the answer by choosing the right solution available.
The solution might be rearranging out bed time, refrain ourselves from smoke, alcohol and coffee, making our room and environment comfortable, try to do relaxation (such as yoga), do sports more often, soak ourselves in a warm bathtub and drink warm milk or tea before going to bed, go to the massage, or listening to the music. Perform the solution effectively until at last, it cures the insomnia. If it continues, you might want to go to the right doctor or psychiatrist.
Me, myself, prefer to listen to music to cure my insomnia. Music can calm our soul, stabilize our emotion and relax our tense muscle. By music, I can be more expressive when I’m expressing what I want to express, because music for me is more dynamic.
Music has brought me down to my past memories. Sometimes, when flash-backing, I choose warm tea and light snack for accompanying me. Indirectly, music has become a very important part in my life, until I have a motto, “Without music, life’s dry”.
There are lots of ways to enjoy music. I usually just lock myself in my room and make a play list of what I want to hear, and then listen it by the headset. Without being worried that I will disturb the other, I am able to express myself as much as I want.
Music has become a supplement and a vitamin for my soul. So, what about you?
